New Zealand Steelwork Corrosion Coatings Guide
The overall objective of this publication, HERA Report R4-133, is to provide the necessary guidance to allow an appropriate and cost-effective coatings system for structural steelwork to be selected and then specified in a generic manner. You can obtain a copy using this order form
- To achieve this objective, this guide covers the following:
- a brief introduction to the basis of protective coatings
- the general types of protective coatings available
- an overview of the corrosion protection standard, AS/NZS 2312:2002, covering the key aspects of that standard
- the general steps required to select an appropriate coating system, followed by the required details to implement each of these steps
- important factors to consider in regard to a coating's performance
- guidance on inspection of coating systems
- some guidance on protection of steel in commonly encountered non-atmospheric environments
- appendices
The Guide is written to be used in conjunction with AS/NZS 2312:2002 Guide to the protection of structural steel against atmospheric corrosion by the use of protective coatings.
Since the publication of the guide in September, 2005, HERA and SCNZ have received a number of calls on the availability of coating systems and their application in New Zealand. One caller even enquired as to which coatings HERA supplies!
To answer this question, a table of coatings system suppliers and applicators is produced by HERA and is put on the HERA and SCNZ websites. We want this list to be as comprehensive as possible, however we rely on industry input to achieve this aim. The companies are listed in alphabetical order.
All galvanising coatings in New Zealand should be referred to the Galvanising Association of Australia website on the New Zealand page.
Note: The table will be updated as more data on suppliers and applicators becomes available: as of January 2006 it covers only some of the companies in New Zealand.
