Globalisation of the structural steel market coupled with changes in Australasia’s steel-making capability over the past two decades has led New Zealand to source structural steel long and plate products from a wider range of countries meaning there is an increased need for appropriate product conformance requirements to ensure compliant material is used for structural steel projects.

SCNZ is working with local importers to extend the range of products with third-party certification from just hot-rolled sections to hollow sections and plate products.

In addition, our Steel Fabricator Certification (SFC) scheme creates a point of difference for locally fabricated steel compared with imported product and provides specifiers – such as engineers, architects and contractors – with certainty of product quality and significantly reduced compliance risk.
